Discover some facts about Biltong?
Biltong is dried, salted meat that originated in South Africa. It can be made from many different types of meat ranging from Beef through to Game meats such as Kudu, Impala and Springbok, to fillets of Ostrich from cultivated farms. The meat is spiced with vinegar, coriander, salt and pepper then air-dried. The ideal conditions for drying are cool, very dry weather. The drying process must not be too lengthy to avoid the meat going off.
Game meat tends to be less fatty than beef so if you are watching your figure, you know which choice of biltong to go for. Our beef biltong, is however, high in protein content and low in fats and carbohydrates.
