There are many old favourites when it comes to ideas for quick and easy family meals. One such favourite, is macaroni cheese,  a delicious budget meal, which can be made with a number of variations to the recipe.  Here is a recipe using Ina Paarman spices and seasonings bought from Cruga Biltong online shop.

Ingredients:

250 g macaroni
boiling water
2 t (10 ml) Ina Paarman's Potato Spice
2 T (30 ml) White Sauce Flour (Carr's)
4 T (60 ml) cold tap water
1 cup (250 ml) milk
½ t (2.5 ml) Ina Paarman's Garlic & Herb Seasoning
1 cup (100 g) grated cheddar cheese
1 smallish onion, chopped
2 T (30 ml) oil
200-250 g button mushrooms, sliced

Preheat the oven to 180°C.

Boil the pasta (approximately 7 minutes) and drain. Season the pasta with Potato Spice. In a saucepan mix the Sauce Flour with the cold water to make a smooth paste. Add the milk, put on the hob and stir using a wooden spoon. Keep stirring until the sauce starts to bubble and thicken. Add more milk if the sauce is too thick in consistency.

Add the Garlic & Herb Seasoning (I have also made this dish with the Rosemary & Olive Seasoning and the Garlic & Pepper Seasoning) and 2/3 of the cheese to the sauce. Pour the white sauce over the pasta and stir. Dish the pasta sauce mix into a medium/large 30 cm x 21 cm ovenproof dish and level it out. Sauté the onion in the oil until brown. Add mushrooms and stir-fry until just beginning to wilt. Spoon the cooked mushrooms and onion over the pasta. Mix in and sprinkle remaining cheese over the top.

Bake for 25-30 minutes until nicely browned. Serve with a salad. And, why not add Mrs Balls Chutney as a wonderful condiment to your macaroni meal. Enjoy!

Buy your Ina Paarman's seasonings and Mrs Ball's Chutney from Cruga Biltong store or online shop.

For a non-vegetarian option, add chopped-up pieces of biltong to the white sauce before mixing in the pasta. The seasoning and biltong compliment each other to create a delicious meal you can enjoy with friends over a good bottle of South African Merlot.
